Discussions About Ken Reid

A double page strip of Frankie Stein!

Ken Reid, who is arguably the best artist ever to contribute to British Comics, is the focus of the discussion for Panel Borders. Admittedly the show is several years old, but it's still intresting and features interviews with Pat Mills and Alan Moore. They discuss Ken's work, his hidden details in the horror and possibilities for published collections of his art.

Some of the best stuff Ken drew includes The Nervs, Frankie Stein and Jonah!

Pat always confuses 'Georgie's Germs' with 'The Nervs'. (Understandably, as they're similar concepts.) Ken never drew Georgie's Germs. He took over The Nervs in late 1968 for the latter issues of Odhams' Smash!

By the way, as you probably know, that Frankie Stein 'double' pager is actually a slightly modified reprint of two single page strips.

I was thinking that earlier, all the Georgie's Germs strips I've seen were either drawn by Leo Baxendale or somebody else who I don't know the name of (such as the strips in the 1968 Wham annual).

Some of the strips work very well as double pages and some are a bit confusing such as one which goes from Frankie Stein wrapped up in a giant sausage to him shaving! The strip in the post came from the 1977 Frankie Stein annual if you're intrested.
